Platform Requirements

This release of the directory server is supported on the following platforms with the noted requirements:

• Solaris 2.5.1, 2.6, or 7 (With the Sun recommended patch set).
• HP-UX 11 with the noted restrictions/recommendations.
• IBM AIX 4.3.2.
• Digital Unix 4.0D.
• SGI IRIX 6.5.
• Redhat Linux 6.0 (Including kernel 2.2.5 and glibc 2.1.1).
• NT 4.0 with service pack 4. The server must be installed on an NTFS file system.

On all platforms, 32 MB of RAM is required to run Directory Server 4.1. 64 MB is recommended (more memory is required for large directory sizes).

A minimal installation of the Directory Server requires 200 MB of disk space. More disk space is required as your directory size (and therefore your database) grows.

As of this release, the graphical user interface for the server is provided through a Java application called the Netscape Console. The Netscape Console runs on all platforms supported by the server, as well as on Windows 95.

A stand-alone installation of the console requires 64 MB of memory and 40 MB of disk space.

HP-UX Recommendations

Please use the following patches when running Directory Server 4.1 on HP-UX 11.0:

• PHKL_14750 pthread_cond_timedwait(3T) EINVAL patch
• PHKL_17869 PM/VM/UFS/async/scsi/io/DMAPI/JFS/perf cuml
• PHCO_17009 fsck_vsfs(1M) cumulative patch
• PHKL_17709 libpthread cummulative patches
• PHSS_16587 HP aC++ runtime libraries (aCC A.03.13)
• XSWGR1100 B.11.00.29 HP-UX Extension Pack, June 1998
• You should upgrade to patch PHNE_16645 if you already have patch PHNE_16283 installed.

Also, please set your kernel parameters as follows:

• Make sure the maxdsize kernel parameter is at least (cachesize*average size of your entries) + 4kb. That is, if your directory server cachesize is 1000 (this is the default), your average directory entry size is 20kb, then make sure your maxdsize kernel parameter is at least (1000*20000) + 4000, or at least 21MB.
• Set max_thread_proc (max number of threads per process) to128
• Set ncallout (max number of pending timeouts) to 128+NPROC
• set maxfiles to at least 120.
